Sirocco arrived as a two year old in Australia in October 2004, after a mammoth amount of research of hundreds of pedigrees and stallions. Making the trip to Germany in August 2004, Axel personally inspected over 150 prospective young stallions, but couldn't go past the impressive Sir Oldenburg son. The pedigree and conformation of this exceptional young horse was like no other. On top of that he showed the most amazing movement and a temperament and character that was equally impressive.
Sirocco had the type of the much favoured 'modern' looking stallion. The long legs, elegant head and neck, and sloping shoulder were all so consistent with his refined body, and to top it all off, he was black! On arrival in Australia, Sirocco immediately began duties standing at stud at Belcam International (Axel's former Warmblood Stud through partnership). Preparation and training began in September 2005 for Sirocco's ridden career. His training was interupted in November, due to a shoulder injury. After minor surgery, his condition deteriorated and further tests confirmed an infection in the shoulder joint. After months of treatment (including four operations) the heartbreaking decision was made to put Sirocco to sleep. He was with us for only a short time, but the memories will last a lifetime. Thankfully, he was with us for almost two full breeding seasons. Sirocco's first foal crop produced some exceptional youngsters that consistently show the strong characteristics of his mare line. We look forward to the next foal crop and hope that Sirocco will continue to reproduce through these stars of the future. There is currently no Sirocco Semen available for sale. |
